Applications Engineer

Job Summary:

The Applications Engineer position encompasses various aspects of product design, development, and production readiness for our line of machine tools and automation projects. This position reviews customers’ technical needs and assists engineers in developing specific product/service solutions to meet these needs. The Applications Engineer also estimates project costs and consults with Sales on routine technical matters, ensuring that proposed solutions can be integrated with current systems and equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct applications engineering necessary to satisfy customer needs
  • Read and interpret specifications and plan drawings, confirm suitability of intended application, and correctly apply applicable industry standards
  • Communicate with suppliers on pricing, delivery, and technical information
  • Convert design concepts into manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD or Inventor 3D solid modeling software
  • Assist in resolving problems that arise during and after implementation
  • Respond to unforeseen issues and challenges
  • Provide guidance for other engineering and technical personnel as required
  • Implement the use of new technologies, cost saving techniques/materials, and improved safety features on equipment designs
  • Visualize layouts and designs
  • Read, prepare, and understand all engineering documentation used by the company
  • Interface with sales, engineering, production, and outside firms to fulfill requirements
  • Assist in development and continual improvement of processes and procedures
  • Communicate issues to management, sales, purchasing, and manufacturing
  • Conduct written and verbal communication with customers
  • Create an attainable project schedule that works within the customer’s timeframe and satisfaction
  • Work effectively as a member of the Sales team to coordinate, communicate and strategize with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Production Planning to ensure schedule dates are met
  • Occasional travel (domestic and international) may be required
  • Other duties as required by the Director, Project Management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Project Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or Project Engineering Technology, or related discipline and 3-5 years increasingly responsible engineering experience in related field
  • Must be a person of integrity and be driven to continuous improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work both individually with minimal supervision and as part of a team on various projects
  • Must be disciplined and goal oriented, while being creative enough to provide and work with new ideas and approaches to designs and processes
  • Must be team oriented and be able to work within schedules and budgets without sacrificing quality
  • Must have the ability to work against and meet strict deadlines
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the company
  • Must have experience in manufacturing processes, machine tools, tolerancing, and materials
  • Knowledgeable in hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, lubrication, and fabrications
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously; must be able to switch from one project to another with little or no re-orientation necessary
  • Must be fully capable of sophisticated analysis in the various disciplines of mechanical engineering

Salary Range: $80,000-$110,000 (annually)
