Simmons Machine Tool Corporation Profiled in CNBC Feature on the Mittelstand
Simmons Machine Tool Corporation is featured as part of a CNBC story on the Mittelstand. The “Mittelstand” is a German business model where private and/or family-owned small to mid-sized companies excel at one niche product or service.
These companies often have strong ties to their community while also being focused on the international market through exporting. The Mittelstand measure success not by quarters but by thriving for decades, and are seen as the foundation of the Germany economy.
All of these factors describe Simmons to a T. Simmons has been keeping the world on track for over 100 years by focusing on machine tool manufacturing, with a shift in the last thirty years to railway wheel set maintenance and production machines. And while our products are in railroad wheel shops all over the world, we have been in the same location in Albany, New York since our start in 1910. Simmons has also partnered with educational programs at Hudson Valley Community College and Troy’s P-TECH in an effort to raise the bar on advanced manufacturing education in the Capital Region.
