Manufacturing Day 2016

It’s that time of year again: Manufacturing Day! This year, Simmons will be hosting a tour of our manufacturing facility for Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (Clean Tech ECHS) students, faculty, and staff. This private tour will show firsthand what modern manufacturing entails, and why it is so important to the future of this area and the country at large. In addition to the tour, Simmons Mechanical Project Engineer Stephen Zavos is part of a panel discussion on “Millennials in Manufacturing,” which takes place at HVCC’s TEC-SMART on Wednesday, October 5 at 8:30 AM. For more information about this event, please visit the Clean Tech ECHS website.

Manufacturing Day (also known as MFG Day) is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. It addresses common misconceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open our doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after Manufacturing Day, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage we face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry. The rallying point for a growing mass movement, Manufacturing Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address our collective challenges so we can help our communities and future generations thrive.

While Manufacturing Day happens annually on the first Friday in October (it falls on October 7 this year), we celebrate Manufacturing Day here at Simmons every day.
