Simmons Makes Donation To Hudson Valley Community College’s New Gene Haas Center For Advanced Manufacturing Skills
Simmons Machine Tool Corporation (part of the NSH Group) is proud to announce a donation to the Gene Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Skills (CAMS), the new advanced manufacturing educational facility at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. The donation, which is $125,000 over three years, will support a state-of-the-art electro/mechanical industrial maintenance lab.
The center is projected to open in the fall of 2018, and will more than double the capacity of the popular Advanced Manufacturing Technology program. Simmons has long been a strong partner to the program, awarding a yearly scholarship to support students who also learn manufacturing firsthand at Simmons’ manufacturing facility. Programs like this are essential to addressing the manufacturing skills gap, wherein it has been projected that two million manufacturing jobs will go unfilled by 2025 due to a decrease in education for relevant manufacturing skills.
“We at Simmons and the NSH Group do not see this as a donation, but rather an investment in our future and the Capital District,” said Simmons President David William Davis, who is also Co-Chairperson of the CAMS Campaign Committee. “I was making my rounds in our facility recently, and noticed that every person in the machine shop at that moment was an HVCC graduate. Every precision-machined part they were working on came from projects that HVCC students and HVCC Professor David Larkin himself helped to design, program, and manufacture. And all of these parts are critical to maintaining the wheels on this country’s locomotives.”
