“Wheel Profiling Processes in Relation to Wheel Climb in Switch Point Guards” Paper Now Available
Last October, Simmons Product Manager Roger Collen presented a well-received paper entitled “Wheel Profiling Processes in Relation to Wheel Climb in Switch Point Guards” as part of the Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association‘s (LMOA) technical sessions during the Railway Interchange conference. It touched on wheel truing cutter alignment as a factor in some locomotive derailments, as referenced in an April 2014 safety report by the Transportation Research Board entitled “Reducing Wheel Climb at Switch Points to Reduce Derailments“.
Roger’s paper will be part of the LMOA 2016 book, which will be available at the RSI/CMA conference this October in Omaha. At the conference, he is presenting an update to the paper, which will discuss the new automatic cutter alignment system for the Stanray® Underfloor Wheel Truing Machine as one solution to the wheel climb issue.
